Eco, the boiler upgrade scheme which offers free or discounted boilers to people, has been extended to 2026, BUT they removed numerous benefits from qualifying including PIP, DLA and Severe Disablement Allowance, which are disability benefits!
If anyone qualifies, we the disabled should! We are often at home up to 24 hours a day 7 days a week and often unable to work at all!
The benefits being removed are:
- Armed Forces Independence Payment
- Attendance Allowance
- Carer’s Allowance
- Constant Attendance Allowance
- Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Severe Disablement Allowance
- War Pensions Mobility Supplement
The only qualifying benefits left:
- Child Benefit
- Pension Guarantee Credit
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Income Support
- Tax Credits (Child Tax Credits and Working Tax Credits)
- Universal Credit
- Housing benefit
- Pension credit saving credit
As you can see, PIP, DLA and Severe Disablement Allowance are excluded now as well as numerous others.
Meaning you can no longer get a free boiler under ECO with any of those listed benefits. Those used to qualify but no longer do.
They removed those benefits at a time like this, during a cost of living crisis!
Clearly showing prejudice to many people by removing benefits that used to qualify.
They could have removed less or none, but they chose to exclude people, including the disabled.
The disabled if anyone is the most deserving! We often can’t work, often are housebound and often in poverty.
If anyone thinks “well there is still the ESA option for the disabled” umm no. You’re wrong, we don’t all qualify!
I get £300 a month PIP, can’t get ESA or UC or anything else! Just check my about me and FAQ and that will show you otherwise. Not paying enough National insurance as I could only work part time means I can’t get ESA for a few more YEARS! We don’t all just get ESA for being disabled. You still have to qualify!
Look at the benefits that still qualify. Shocking that some remain and disability ones such as PIP and DLA were removed. Disabled people just get screwed at every corner with a Tory run government as they are renowned for not caring about the disabled. My £300 a month income should prove that alone.
If you disagree then you could do some research into this as there is lots of evidence and proof. I guarantee you that most disabled will tell you the same.
I personally think if they have really have to remove a benefit then there are many other better choices they could remove. Of course I believe that ideally none should be removed at all of course, but there are much better things to remove.
